Chairperson of the Committee Hanna Hopko familiarized those present with domestic political situation in Ukraine; told about areas of Committee’s work; and responded to several questions concerning future cooperation.
The necessity to activate work at the level of inter-parliamentary friendship groups and elaborate a joint workplan was stressed during the meeting. Hanna Hopko informed that the Committee actively works on the establishment of inter-parliamentary liaison group with the Latvian Republic in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. She said in particular that more than 40 deputies, representatives of all political parties, have already submitted membership applications.
On her part, Argita Daudze attached attention to the fact that common inter-parliamentary contacts are of extreme importance, and that bilateral Ukrainian-Latvian relations show significant potential and development prospects. She expressed hope for future fruitful cooperation at political, economic and humanitarian levels.
Special attention was drawn to the priorities of Latvian Presidency of the EU Council. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary outlined main priorities of Latvian Presidency, particularly, establishment of a competitive, digital and active Europe. Argita Daudze noted that implementation of these priorities will contribute to the increase in the number of workplaces and economic growth of the EU. Latvia attaches significant attention to the issues of expanding European Neighborhood Policy in eastern and southern directions, which is the priority of EU foreign relations; as well as issues of strengthening transatlantic partnership; and developing EU-Central Asia Strategy.
